OUR
WARD

WHAT IS WARD CAPITAL?

Ward capital funding in the City of St. Louis refers to the allocation of city funds to each of the city’s wards for use in capital improvement projects. Since 1993, the City has funded infrastructure improvements using a ½-cent sales tax, annually distributing the revenue equally among its wards. These funds are typically used for things like roads, parks, sidewalks, and public buildings. Each alderperson has discretion over how their ward’s capital funds are spent, allowing for localized decision-making based on the specific needs and priorities of a ward. We have allocated funding to the following projects for the 2025/26 fiscal year:

-
Tree Planting: $42,766 to plant 200 trees throughout the Ward.
-
Refuse Containers: $140,000 to replace 10% of Refuse bins.
-
Sidewalks: $450,000 to replace roughly 100 sidewalks in the Ward.
-
Speed Humps: Speed humps will now require a petition signed by 51% of the addresses on the block where you would like the block placed. We do not have a specific amount allocated to this, but please know that each speed hump costs roughly $7,000.
-
Parks Updates: We plan to resurface the pickleball courts in Tilles Park.
